Coverville 93: A Flock of Seagulls, a pair of Milkshakes and a Big Star

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

OK, slight correction in tonight’s show. In talking about the song Pipeline, I miscredited it to the Bar-Kays, instead of the actual group that recorded it, the Chantays… The Bar-Kays did Soul Finger, which I’ll make my Uncovered Gem of the Week on Sunday as repentance. Back to the Tuesday night hodgepodge…Here’s what’s on the show tonight:

Title Artist Original Artist
Ballad of El Goodo the BosweLLs Big Star
What’s So Funny ‘Bout Peace, Love and Understanding American Ambulance) Nick Lowe/Brinsley Schwartz (see episode #3)
Milkshake Chance Kelis
Milkshake Buddy Kelis
I Ran The Original Onions Flock of Seagulls (with a little bit of The Chantays)
I Can’t Dance Gnemesis Genesis

RSS fixed! (and useful tip)

Wednesday, May 25th, 2005

The RSS has been fixed. For you podcasters out there that might want to use two servers: one to host your blog and one to host your audio files, here’s what you’ll need to do:

Get your blog’s hosting company to add your other site as a trusted domain for their firewall. Your blog software (in my case, Moveable Type) needs to report back the size of the enclosure, so that it can generate the RSS. I moved my latest audio file to a new server (coverpod.com) but until it was added as a trusted domain, Moveable Type couldn’t get the file size and create the RSS.

In layman’s terms (which I need), it’s fixed now.

Episode 88 and Server Issues

Saturday, May 21st, 2005

Looks like I’m going to start shopping for a new host. My files have been hosted over at Brinkster.com since the beginning of the year, and until recently, performance was excellent. The fact that you can get unlimited bandwidth for $18/month is excellent. But many people complained that Episode 88 didn’t download completely for them, and I even saw the same issue.

If you have a host you recommend – and I need about 5TB (yes, Terrabytes) of bandwidth per month, please let me know.

By the way, BlueHost, who hosts my site (not the audio files) has been magnificent, and I continue to highly recommend them.

If you had problems with Episode 88, please try refreshing your browser window. After the first refresh, the file downloaded fine for me. Thanks for your patience.
