Thanks to my buddy Randy for finding this and letting me know about it.
Apparently Microsoft has a new product that will analyze music that is sung into it, and provide you with what it thinks is appropriate accompaniment. It looks at your pitch, tempo, and melody to determine things like instrumentation, and backing melody.
Watch how it handles the vocals that have been stripped out of some of your favorites.
Here’s a sample:
I've been a big Bowie fan for a long time. When I first heard Beck's version of Diamond Dogs, I didn't even know it was a Bowie song but fell in love with it immediately. It instantly became my favorite Bowie song ever – thanks to this cover. I'm not even that much of a Beck fan but he did a tremendous job here.
Cyndi Lauper's "All Through the Night" was, itself, a cover. Hopefully Brian can do an originalville here, I can't seem to find it online & I'd love to hear it — "All Through the Night" by Jules Shear
I thought the name of the song was "Salsbury Hill".
Looking forward to the next episode – I hope you include the material found here: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/lionstrail/
