Enjoyed this episode, nice job, thanks.
Renee Stahl has a fantastic voice. Gotta find more of her stuff.
Is it just me? I find that Streets cover of Your Song to be SO bad it is laugh-out-loud funny! I picture Dick Van Dyke playing Bert in Mary Poppins (with that comedy cockney accent and in chimney sweep outfit) serenading Mary with this charmless ditty. It has its uses tho – whenever the kids are playing up in the car, I can always threaten them with playing it.
Ha David! I have already broken the news to Brian that Mike Skinner of the Streets is actually a brummie, like Ozzy Osborne, and effects that ‘mockney’ accent in order to appear streetwise.
I actually think it is one of the worst covers ever, certainly in the top 10 and, IMO, worse than anything by Kevin Rowland, if that’s where we are going to set the bar!
Elton and Bernie ought to be able to stop this kind of thing…
I was hoping you’d play William Hung’s cover of “Rocket Man”, but the Naked Eyes version is close enough 🙂
My initial thought about The Streets, You Song, was “Oh God, that was terrible,” but I couldn’t get through the whole episode when I started it. I ended up listening to it again in the car the next morning, and it kind of grew on me the second time.
What I liked best was Don’t Go Breaking My Heart. The original was such a syrupy sweet awful song that was so overplayed at the time, but The Mr. T Experience makes something I like listening to.
I got one: a cover/cover duo, like The Who and Elton John:
The Times They Are A-Changin’ by Simon & Garfunkel (from Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.)
The Boxer by Bob Dylan (from Self-Portrait)
This one really doesn’t count as a cover on cover, but do you happen to have a live version of Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight and the Pips doing Grapevine? (I do.). Marvin does it in the Pips version, and vice versa in the same song.
