“yeeehaaa”. Fantastic Brian and thanks for playing my request. I actually had no idea at the time that Strawberry Switchblade were British and that cover was from 1985, so this was all a bonus!
Yeehaaa!!
Fantastic Brian. Dolly's fantastic and so is this show. Thanks for playing my request. I've sent an e-mail to Dolly's people about this show, so, you never know, you might get a personal thank you!!
Maybe for Dolly part 2 you could consider her great cover of the Fine Young Cannibals "She drives me crazy", from her latest album. You've played it before, but I still say that her cover of her friend Cat Stevens "Peace Train" is one of the best covers ever and still a very powerful message.
I'm curious how you got City Hall as being by Dolly Parton. Could this be some sort of an OriginalVille kind of thing where somebody else first recorded a song that the writer then performed on their own album? Because according to the CD of Vienna Teng's _Dreaming Through the Noise, all songs are by Vienna Teng. No matter — I loved hearing Vienna Teng on Coverville; she's one of my favorites these days…
Sadly – it was a bit of a mistake, but not enough for me to edit the song out of the show. The song was suggested by a listener to the show who saw Vienna in concert, and heard her say it was a Dolly Parton cover. But I'm thinking that Vienna was talking about the song before it, or after it, or maybe said that the song was inspired by Dolly Parton. Who knows. But I didn't figure it out until after the show.
Oh well – in any case, it's a beautiful song!
City Hall doesn't strike me as Dolly Parton-esque at all, but it's a beautiful song, so thanks for including it!
Ah ok that kinda makes sense now. I have been trying to wrap my mind around that "cover" for over a week now. I love the song, actually one of my favs on Vienna's album. I agree it didn't sound like Dolly, but maybe it should be under the heading of It Should Have Been Written By…
OK, I was wondering the same thing. Finally a Vienna Teng song makes it to Coverville and it's not even a cover!
Brian, I suggested this some time ago but if you do want a Vienna Teng COVER, try her version of Damien Rice's "Cannonball".
A belated "Terriffic show, Brian!" I've been playing a little bit o catch-up while on sickleave. For my two cents worth, let me recommend my favorite Dolly Parton cover. performed featuring Dolly and Ladysmith Black Mambazo: Knocking on Heaven's Door" (Original by Bob Dylan, famous cover by Guns N Roses, but you knew that, dincha?) I have it on "The Ultimate Collection" of LBM, but it must appear on an earlier album, nez pas?
