I’m not saying that the show isn’t great. It is! But there’s no big fanfare or anything. There is great music, and a visit from Tina (shorter show next time, I promise!):

Hi Brian – Why not check out your local music stores? This is one that came up in google: http://www.guitarcenter.com/locations/store.cfm?store=422
I’m sure a store like this would be able to help you find a mic stand like you are looking for; even if its just a conventional boom type stand that you place on the floor next to you, that way it won’t pick up any of the vibration by you tapping your desk because it will be sitting on the floor…
hi Jon,
I’ve checked out all the major stores in the area, Guitar Center, Musicican’s Superstore, Robb’s Music, and yeah, they do have the floor-based mic stands, but space is limited around my desk area. I’d have to do some major rearranging to allow for it.
if I can’t find a decent swing arm, I’ll go the floor stand route. But I’m an old WKRP fan, and if I can use something that looks like what Johnny Fever had, I’m all over it…
It’s a Liverpool (commonly known as Scouse) accent 🙂
Eric
I shoulda known! Liverpudlian, indeed!
This is probably my favorite show of yours ever, Brian, and it’s for the unusually oddball tone and selections. I recognize that your tastes are a bit mainstream compared to mine, so hearing Rasputina, and especially some of my favorites like Decemberists and Whitley really was a highlight. And that gloriously over-the-top Springsteen cover by Frankie Goes to Hollywood is a guilty pleasure. (Do you have the Songbook tribute album? It’s got this one as well as excellent cuts by Emmylou Harris, Greg Kihn, and all sorts of other stuff like Pointer Sisters and Dave Alvin.)
Hi, Brian — Try Full Compass (http://www.fullcompass.com) for your mic stand quest. I’m in the market for one of those babies myself, and I know that Full Compass carries them. They sell to the radio and studio production markets, so they have this kind of gear. Unfortunately, they only make their catalog available as multiple downloadable PDFs for different categories, so you can’t exactly browse online and you’ll have to call them up (toll-free) when you’re ready to purchase. But they definitely know their stuff and should be able to help you. Just tell ’em you wanna be Johnny Fever!
Oh, and you knew this was coming…Eddie Floyd was the original singer of “Knock On Wood” in 1966, but I think the name you were looking for was Amii Stewart — she released her smashing (ugh) disco version in 1979.
Cool show…by the way, the Decemberists are from right here in Portland, Oregon!

Great show, Brian!
And hey, you pronounced my name right!
With so many people of German descent here in Minnesota, people tend to pronounce it “Schneider” making me want to scream “Do you see a F**king ‘CH’ in my name??” and you didn’t, so thank you! 🙂

Well my first attempt seems to have disappeared into the web wilderness. So here is a another thanks the version of seventh son was one I haven’t hears and Mose Allison went for it.
So that albums is going on my wish list.
The whole show was first rate.
The Liverpudlian was of course telling some poor sod that they might have to sign for the dole every day in future.
Here’s a helping hand from my ‘other’ favorite music podcast, The Roadhouse (on his gear list on the right of the home page):

Check it out, if you haven’t heard of it…great jumpin blues!

This doesn’t have much to do with the show, but just an F.Y.I. a Scottish accent is a British accent. A British accent refers to any accent in the United Kingdom (Great Britain). A Scottish accent is not an English accent which I think is what you meant.
All Scots are from Britain but not all people from Britain are Scots, that sort of thing.
I’m amazed that more Brits haven’t jumped on that one since my British friends get really uppity when English and British are interchanged (especially the ones from Northern Ireland but that’s a whole other thing).
Love the podcast even though I’m always about three episodes behind! 🙂
