Even though the show is usually family-friendly, this show is even more so – and one that your kids may like even more! I’m joined in the studio by the usually-chatty-but-tonight-kinda-shy Tristan, my nine-year-old son. He picked the tunes for tonight’s show, and there’s something for everyone:
Title (with link to iTunes, if available) | Artist | Album (with link to Amazon.com, if available) | Original Artist |
Yummy, Yummy, Yummy | Teen Machine | Right to Chews: Bubblegum Classics Revisited | Ohio Express |
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? | Matthew Sweet | Saturday Morning Cartoons’ Greatest Hits | Cartoon theme |
Picture Book | Bill Lloyd and Tommy Womack | This Is Where I Belong: The Songs of Ray Davies & The Kinks | Kinks |
Changes | Butterfly Boucher and David Bowie | Shrek 2 | David Bowie |
The Window | Trout Fishing In America | Big Trouble | Nursery Rhymes |
Billy Joe McGuffrey | Chris Rice | Jonah: A Veggietales Movie | Uncovered Gem of the Week |
I don’t know who orginally sang the song ‘The Window’ or if there are other records but I’m pretty sure which was not the original and therefor really was a proper cover. Why would I make such a clam? It’s simple… In the 1980’s I worked at a Boy Scout camp and this was one of the songs we sang. As soon as I heard this in the show I recognized it and grabbed my old song book. As of 86 we where singing it so it is atleast that old. If someone knows where it started that woudl be interesting.
Wow!
The best coverville ever! Tristan is a natural DJ: has great musical taste, doesn’t talk all the time. He’ll have his own podcast in no time. Who cares if it’s David Bowie or not? The song is cool. Reason enough.
But seriously, Brian is pretty good DJ too. Episodes without Tristan are worth the download.
I marked this episode as favorite, put it on my ipod and threw it out the window, the window, I threw it out the window! 😉
I love that Butterfly Boucher song. It takes Bowie to make a Bowie cover work.
Kids songs are great! It’s so unfair that if you’re 53 and you walk down the street singing “Hot Potato Hot Potato” people give you really weird looks. “THe Window” is such a great song I might just have to put it on my Nano and risk it.

Brian, thanks for the show with Tristan. Good music and a great vibe. Hope you both get together for a similar kind of show next Father’s Day. You guys really put a smile on my face.
Regarding Trout Fishing in America’s “The Window:” I’ve heard a live version where the final verse is another nursery rhyme mxied with “Stariway to Heaven” 🙂
Great episode, you should have Tristen on more often!
Loved this show!
