Hey Brian,
Thanks for playing Audio Adrenaline. They’ve been one of my favorite bands since beore Bloom came out, I also went to high school with the drummer, who joined after this album. Unfortunately, they’re breaking up at the end of this year.
If you like this cover, they also do great versions of “Your Love Lifted Me Higher” aka “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher” by Jackie Wilson on “Until My Heart Caves In” and “Let My Love Open The Door” by Pete Townshend on “Underdog.”
Actually, “You Belong to Me” was written in 1926 by Billy Rose and Lee David (which probably explains why it seems to work well with ukelele) and was popularized in 1956 by something of a novelty act called Patience and Prudence. They were 11 and 14 year old sisters. Lawrence Welk and others also recorded it that year.
The Trash Can Sinatras do a great version of this.
Brian! Look at you, playing the Contemporary Christian Music. Dude, are you trying to one-up me? Keep it chremo, brother.
Thanks so much for playing the Twilight Singers. Greg Dulli is one of my all time favorites. But I had to cringe when you mispronounced his name. It’s pronouced “doo-lee”. He’s famous for digressing during his own songs live to meld into an unexpected but musically related cover. The Whigs covered Barry White for the soundtrack to “Beautiful Girls” which also has Roland Gift formally of Fine Young Cannibals fame doing an awesome cover of “That’s How Strong My Love Is.” You should check it out for the show.
Please make this episode available to iTunes subscribers. For some reason, it’s missing from the page. When I found it here, I freaked out! I haven’t missed a single episode of Coverville in months! Please correct the situation. Thanks.
The cover of The Chauffer was so good I downloaded the album from iTunes. You are right Brian, the rest of the album is good too. Thanks for the discovery.
