Thanks Brian – great show, even without Nirvana! Has me itching for Bowie 2, 3 etc!
Lulu has been around here for decades and has kind of re-invented herself of late, including singing with Take That and Ronan Keating (a cover of”we’ve got tonight”).
But she’ll always be famous here for “shout”, particularly the opening.
Loved the Bowie show! Check out Dar Williams cover of “Starman”
Good show, but the lulu cover is definitely closer to the bowie original than the nirvana cover is, not that that’s a bad thing. I would love hear to more trivia about david robert jones on the sequels, but regardless it was really good. Also, the record label was skipping disks, I don’t remember you mentioning that later, and I don’t think there are covers on mars, but there are covers in suffragette city.
I’m surprised how much I like this show. I’m not a Bowie fan (or thought I wasn’t), but this show makes it clear how durable and catchy his stuff is. And great variety, too. Didn’t miss the Nirvana one bit!
I must say I’m disapointed that there wasn’t a cover of “China Girl” or “Ziggy Stardust” Good show overall!
SUPERB! Oh man, I could listen to this edition on repeat I liked so many of the songs. I absolutely loved Bowie’s cover of “Waterloo Sunset” and the Seu Jorge version of “Changes”. I had a crappy commute this morning (W train wasn’t running into Manhattan) but I didn’t mind at all…I had Bowie and Ibbott! Thanks! I did eventually get to work and still haven’t heard the last one “Life on Mars” but I had to comment right away. This is great!
Glad you featured the Happy Rhodes bit – that Rhodesongs compilation has a lot of great stuff on it.
Getting ready to listen to the show but what, no Cactus by the Pixies?? Maybe in Volume 2. Thanks for putting the show together in the first place. Maybe you are still working on a Pixies Cover Story? Maybe?
Keep up the great work as always.
Did you know Essra Mohawk was one of the regular singers for Schoolhouse Rock? She’s most apparent on “Sufferin’ Til Suffrage” and “Interjections!” but she also has bits on other songs.
Awesome show from start to finish. I’m not a huge fan of David Bowie, it’s one of those cases where I like his music more when other people sing it, so Thank YOU! And bring on part 2!
I had to look this one up on the news that David Bowie passed away today. Brian, time for an update, please? How he will be missed!
