We’ll start off with a couple Canadian covers – since people seem to think my show hails from the Great White North. After that, Sherman and Mr. Peabody take us on a trip back in time to January 25th 1965 – Cover Style:
“Dear God” – Sarah McLachlan (originally XTC)
“Fight the Power” – Barenaked Ladies (originally Public Enemy)
“I Feel Fine” – Curtis Stigers (originally The Beatles)
“Love Potion #9” – Rockapella (originally The Searchers)
“You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling – The Heptones (originally The Righteous Brothers)
“Downtown” – The B-52’s (originally Petula Clark)
Also, I keep forgetting to mention–check out two great podcasts that were nice enough to have me on as a guest for an interview:
The Clint And Doug Show– These guys are great. Low tech, but high cool. (www.clintanddoug.info)
The Keener 13 Podcast-This show takes me back to the 1970’s, when I spent my days listening to AM radio. Keener 13 is a podcast dedicated to (now long gone) WKNR Radio out of Detroit. If you listened to AM radio at all in the 1970s, WKNR will bring back a transistor-load of memories. (www.keener13.com)
Great stuff.
I’m working on an article about podcasting for the Globe. If you’d be interested in speaking, drop me a line.
Cheers
Really enjoyed that show. Thought I might put in a request as ‘Canadian’ and ‘a-capella’ brought to mind the works of Moxy Fruvous. King of Spain would be a fun track for the a-capella show perhaps? Great podcast.
i heard a really good cover of a rap song, a girl sings it. i dont know what it’s called. but she swears a lot and mentions ice cube. if you ever hear it could you let me know who sings it?
That’s most likely Nina Gordon’s version of “Straight Outa Compton”. You can listen to it on her site at http://www.ninagordon.com.
Brian – Love Potion No. 9 was originally a hit for the Clovers around 1959 as well as for the Coasters. In fact it even appears on the American Graffitti soundtrack. The Searchers’ version is a cover. They also covered stuff by the Drifters, Malvina Reynolds and others.
How can you have an all canadian cover show and ignore Rush’s feedback album from last year? It has several 60’s cover songs by the premiere canadian rock trio
YO,
I listened to your shit at the gym today….I was working out. I was so excited to workout to your show that I told this
Im bumed that Philly lost.but yo
Whadda gonna do?
So Im in to POd casting and its cool/ I like your version of the Heptones. You have lost your loving feeling” You do it like I would. You explain things and interject your knowledge of the song. RADIO DOES NOT DO THAT ANYMORE..THat why Radio sucks and Podcasting rules. I will listen..
VERY COOL
Andrew
