Brian – You're so knowledgeable that I forget how young you are – 40 – you're just a kid.
Yeah, I REMEMBER the Leaves' version and so have LONG known it wasn't a Hendrix original because I had heard the Leaves' version on the radio. BTW, I hear the Love influence, but I also hear some bizarre combination of Needles and Pins (Searchers) and especially Feel A Whole Lot Better (the Byrds); that guitar riff in particular.
On the other hand, being old has its benefits. First Musically Challenged I did better than Brian. (4 out of 5- I missed Three Dog Night too, and I own the song)
I was gonna mention the Needles and Pins comparison too!
Welcome back, Brian. Good to hear you've got a lot of shows in the queue.
Wow I just mailed Brian with Needles and Pins as well.
In the Deep Purple version, does anybody else hear "Rock Me Amadeus"?
Hey y'all – the Blood, Sweat & Tears song that was the last answer (God Bless The Child) in the trivia is also a cover. The original version was from Billie Holiday. It's also been covered by about a zillion other people, including Stevie Wonder I can think of.
If you want a chorus of harmonizing singers, Geoff Smith can probably hook that up for you. Surely you remember his work from all the times Adam Curry has played jingles 🙂

Aaron – You're right, of course, about the God Bless the Child cover, but the musical riff from the station was clearly a BS&T swipe.
