June 17, 2010

coverville-cover-story-album.jpgA pre-birthday tribute to the most commercially successful of the former fab four, Sir Paul McCartney. A strong focus in tonight’s show on his earlier albums, and some of those great hits and deeper cuts that came from them.

  1. I heard an interview with Bettye Lavette about this album. I love her other stuff and her voice is beyond amazing. Still, I admit having my doubts about this album. Frankly, most tribute albums fall flat and greatly disappoint. Not this one — Incredible! She makes each song a Bettye Lavette song.

  2. Great show, Brian! But you could have colored me surprised when all of a sudden in the middle of PHP programming today I hear "We've done our version of Junior's Farm-a" and Galactic Cowboys guitarist Wally Farkas' best Yoko Ono impression! GC is one of my favorite bands, and never in a million years would I have thought that you would play them on Coverville (although the only other cover I can think of that they've done on a studio album is KISS's "I Want You" from the same "Feel the Rage" EP).

Thanks again for such a great podcast!

  3. OK, you've done it again Brian – this was a FANTASTIC show, right up there in the top 10 best Coverville's. Paul is such a talented guy and you're right – so great right after the Beatles and I am sure he didn't get the full credit he deserved.

Take a week off to celebrate such a great show :-)!!
