You might know them just for “Take On Me”, but a-ha has been putting out solid albums ever since those days in the early 80’s when they were all hand drawn and being chased by race car drivers with wrenches. Shall we listen to a few covers of and by the band? Yes. Lets.

One of the best Coverville shows! Thank you. A-ha is a much under-appreciated band here in the U.S. I’m sure there is plenty of material out there for a second a-Ha Cover Story on a future show.
Great version of Crying in the Rain. You have to play the Edmunds/Lowe version someday (If you haven’t already)
I too am a proud a-Ha fan and own everything they’ve done. Sadly, they called it quits last year, so the catalog is now complete. Their more recent stuff sounded a lot like Coldplay or Keane, which isn’t too surprising, as I think Chris Martin and Morten Harkett have worked on stuff together.
If you’re going to do another one of these, I’d recommend Morten’s solo cover of ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You’. If you can find any covers of their newer material to play, that’d be great. There are a lot of great songs on ‘Minor Earth Major Sky’, ‘Lifelines’ and ‘Analogue’… not sure if anyone’s covered them though.
Don’t forget their version of Velvet. The song was first released by Paul Waaktaar’s band Savoy so it qualifies as a cover. Oh, and Morten Harket has done a version of 10cc’s Ready to go Home. Thx for a great website, keep up the good work!
The Anni B Sweet version is so addictingly silly. It takes over first place in my daily “The Most Ridiculous Take On Me Cover Song Contest” I hold in my head, narrowly beating out The Northern Kings.
Ukulele beats out Power Metal Supergroup Cover Band. Who knew?
Drew, It’s Magne Furuholmen who has worked with Guy Berryman of Coldplay. They make up part of the ‘supergroup’ Apparatjik along with Martin Terefe (who produced many a-ha songs) and Jonas Bjerre of Mew.
Morten Harket also covered one of Magne’s original releases on the album Hotel Oslo, called We’ll Never Speak Again (Letter from Egypt album.
A-ha also covered Soft Cell’s ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye’ – for the Ken Bruce BBC Radio 2 show in October 2010.
AWESOME SHOW! I have always loved A-ha. I’ve been made fun of for years — everyone humming the Take On Me tune as I walk in. But it’s nice to see someone knows more than just that song! Love these covers!
I was impressed to hear Brian that you’ve been a fan all the way along.
I was an addict of Scoundrel Days (especially Manhattan Skyline, which I consider their best song), and owned a copy of Stay On these Roads on cassette. Never got around to getting the latter on CD though, unlike the first two.
Looking fwd to that Lennon cover. Thanks for the show 😉
