that “leaving on a jetplane” is one of my favorite covers. Heard it before since sadly armageddon is one of my favorite movies (early date movie with my wife). thanks for playing it and reminding me how much I love it.
I went to a performance by Chantal Kreviazuk back in 1999, just as the song came out. There were roughly 30 of us in the salon, so we all got to shmooze with her and she shared this anecdote about it:
She had been asked to record Leaving on a Jet Plane for the soundtrack, so, with her mom, went to see the movie, excited to hear her song. The credits almost finished at the end, they were the only ones left in the theatre and they hadn’t heard it (and were disappointed that her track had been cut). They stood to leave and one of the theatre’s cleaning crew told her they’d waited that long, they should stay through to the very end of the credits. Why? Her favourite part of the movie was coming up: this song. (If memory serves, Chantal said she was so flattered she cried.)
Sweet, eh?
PS: Her last name is pronounced kre’vee’as’uck.
