The lyric to “L.A. Woman” is “If they say I NEVER loved you, you know they are a liar”, NOT “If they say I loved you, you know they are a liar”.
I wouldn’t ordinarily gripe about these things; I’m willing to give the artist some latitude in the song. But in this case, I think it makes no sense.
