One of the voices that, for me, really launched the uniqueness of the 90’s: Tori Amos, who turns 50 today! Happy Birthday, Tori, please to enjoy these covers of (and by) you. (59 minutes)

So why DON’T you speak, or read, Mandarin Chinese? This is the kind of expertise we’ve come to expect from you, Brian!
Actually… Hate to nitpick, but that one (the version from 100,000 Whys) was in Cantonese.
She did also later do it in Mandarin on another album though.
I was on board with the musical choices of the Redemption version of “Precious Things”, but then they changed up some of the more controversial lyrics, then it just pissed me off. Don’t do a cover if you’re too afraid to treat the song with respect. Some of her other covers I’d love to hear in the future, “A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell, “Do It Again” by Steely Dan(very different sound from the original), “Time” by Tom Waits.
Seconded. Bowdlerized lyrics drive me nuts. Nothing pulls me out of a song worse than some singer deciding their personal sensibilities are more important than respecting the song. I guess some precious things still have a hold on them.
