Loved this episode. Your work here has been a constant companion for me since 2007.
I did a spit take when you mentioned that you liked the Arcelia cover of Broken better that the original – before you caught yourself and added that it wasn’t a competition.
That’s true enough.
What amazes and delights me about Jake Bugg is that he is a rough hewn troubadour whose emotional center is worn clearly on his sleeve. Broken is a song of anguish and of confusion over loss – of deep hurt. Arcelia’s airbrushed version is certainly carefully crafted and understatedly lush with it’s instrumentation and backing harmonies, but there is no emotional punch in the hint of ethereal sadness that it conveys.
Spend a bit more time with Jake Bugg’s performances. The kid delivers.
OK, I have to call you on my silly musical pet peeve. It’s “Talking Heads”, not “The Talking Heads”. You wouldn’t say “The Queen”, or “The Foreigner” or “The Nirvana”.
Despite this horrendous error, I still plan to continue my Coverville Citizenship. Keep the amazing shows coming.
Good point. You’re absolutely right, and I knew that, and should have known better when I said it.
