I dig into the vinyl for tonight’s Coverville, for this week’s “Uncovered Gem” by Blanket of Secrecy. You’ll hear some electronic covers from Diff’rent Strokes and the Moog Cookbook. Also an incredible combo cover of “Sympathy For The Devil” and “Livin’ For The City” by Opie Gone Bad. And…my first long distance dedication.
Also, send me the name of what you feel is the best cover – it could be one I’ve played on my show or not – and I’ll amass the 2004 Coverville Countdown for the final shows of the year where I’ll tally up your votes and play the best covers of the year. Email me at brian at coverville.com, call me on my voice mail at 314-248-9957, or post a message on this here entry.
your show rocks. i duplicates itself when it ports to itunes, however. not sure why.
anyway, top cover songs. one of my faves has got to be raspberry beret by hindu love gods.
rock on.

This is a bizarre reference point, but the lead singer of Opie Gone Bad sounds rather like the excellent Broadway singer Hinton Battle. The connection is only increased when he sings “Sympathy”, as Battle played a demon on the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (http://hpbimg.restlessbtvs.com/episodes/6/6_07_sweet2.jpg)
Love the show. Amazing to hear such great music from all over the musical spectrum. The Opie Gone Bad cover is definetly up there, but my fav’s got to be the Cowboy Junkies version of Blue Moon, Blue Moon Revisited from their Trinity Sessions album.
I’d love to hear it again sometime, because people keep stealing the CD I’ve bought time and time again.
