ouch. I am reminded of movies like The Bonfire of the Vanities, Ishtar…lot’s of talent REALLY bad mistakes. I can see now why you’ve only done two of these in 301 episodes. That ratio is about right.
I really didn’t think the Time Warp could get cheesier
*ears bleeding*
I seriously thought that Figures On A Beach track was great – they were in tune, added their own mark to a pastiched song, seriously I really liked that version a lot.
Just two questions;
1) How did you avoid CD2 of that Cheggars release – Margarita Pracatan’s version of Lionel Richie’s “hello”? 1000 times worse than Damian IMO (my kids love that song!)
2) Peter Andre and Katie (Jordan) Price must feel very relieved today to avoid this list!

Thank you. It was quite a listening experience.
The AAC edition came along just in time.
(I’m off to take my computer in for an exorcism now.)
I actually don’t hate that odb cover,it’s the same with biz markie’s version of bennie and the jets,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iFYJYwtjpc&mode=related&search=, despite the atonality it’s almost endearing. my worst covers tend to be more by bands I don’t like in the first place: limp bizkit behind blue eyes, fall out boy roxanne, kid rock feel like making love or an artist I like doing the completely wrong cover for them: duran duran 911 is a joke or sheryl crow sweet child o mine
Brian, I’m disappointed. How could you do a show like this WITHOUT playing Eliert Pilarm?
Tim
Just thought actually, thank god Brian did not play that Celine Dion AC/DC cover or The Puppini sisters *shiver*
Actually I think the latter CD has been sent to Cuba because the Barney “I love you” CD is worn out:-)
“House Of The Rising Sun” by Dolly Parton would have completed this episode nicely. I love Dolly but YEEESH!!
Hey I like that BTO cover, having listened to BTO since I was a kid.. Maybe I have flexible tastes, but so far I haven’t heard a song I don’t like.. Maybe I should reply until I’ve heard everything..
I was figuring you would play something like
Mrs. Miller doing “These Boots Were Made for Walking”.
Okay, this Rocky Horror “Time Warp” totally sucks..
I’ll tell you a song I hated, the “chain” from the rumours Coverville.. I really couldn’t stand that one.. I would have rather had the Macy Gray and ODB one than that (but I guess it would be out of context, even though “Don’t Go Breaking my heart” was a year before rumours)
BTW, You need someone to help you with this website, this comment popup isn’t resizeable and should be.. Also need a left offset of about 10%.
No it was “You can go your own way”, that I hated..
With the one guy singing and the other asynchronously dribbling out lyrics, that was god awful..
OMG this episode is so awful! It’s so so awful that I am going to make my husband listen to it when he gets home :-).
The Time Warp cover definitely=ears bleeding
“BTW, You need someone to help you with this website, this comment popup isn’t resizeable and should be”
It is resizeable on my browser (Safari).
Not on Firefox though. Are you using IE Kiernan? *Feeling faint*
Wow, I actually remember the ‘Figures On A Beach’ cover of BTO back when it was on the radio… I think I actually called and requested it from my local radio station once! Of course, at the time I thought it was a remix of the original, which I wasn’t familiar with until many years later.
Sheesh. I finally hear a Little Wing cover and it’s on this episode! Actually I was planning to ask you to dedicate an entire episode to that song. I love the original and the Eric Clapton and other covers. Well, at least you got this one out of the way!
Little Wing was terrible! One of my fav songs of all time, I guess I never realized the underlaying storyline – youch!
I vote for a fantastic Little Wing cover for a future show to be by The Corrs – Unplugged – Outstanding!
I didn’t think the Maria McKee version was that bad – it just got a bit silly with her over-emoting at the end.
If I had to nominate the worst listening experience I have ever had it would probably be Kiri Te Kanawa singing Gershwin. It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with it exactly, it was just that there wasn’t anything right with it.
It was also annoying because she was supposed to be showing how broad her tastes were, but she demontrated the oppposite by revealing an underlying assumption that if you can sing opera, then popular music must be something you can do effortlessly. This clearly isn’t the case, and her effort was an object lesson in this sort of fallacy.
Oh, goodness gracious. That version of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” made me CRINGE. Him being a whole note sharp at the end of every phrase in the chorus was just excruciating. My husband heard two seconds of it and yelled, “SHUT THAT OFF!”
Listening to “Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”. OK, maybe it misses the mark. But it doesn’t miss the mark nearly as badly as that “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”.
Poor Elton. Perhaps they could work out some arrangement and Elton could pay out to keep the song from being played.
Oh wow, I think I just discovered a whole new business model, “musical ransom”.
I remember playing Figures On A Beach when I was in college. I thought it was an ok tune back then.
All right, that ODB/Macy Gray song nearly killed me. That was atrocious.
I winced when I heard that Maria McKee’s version of “Backstreets” was part of the show. I love Maria McKee, and she has done some astonishing covers in the past (her cover of “Has He Got a Friend For Me?” – the Richard/Linda Thompson song- brings tears to my eyes.)
She also has a version of the classic folk tune, “Wayfarin’ Stranger” that is breathtaking. It’s on the Songcatcher soundtrack, I believe. And she does some full-throated hollering on that song, too, but it works there.
But I have this album of her acoustic tour, and I had great hopes for the song. And it’s just as your caller described it. It starts out so well, and then just goes completely off the rails. The crowd cheers, because Maria is a goddess and they’d cheer anything she did. But it’s genuinely painful to listen to. So sad.
Tom Tom Club’s Femme Fatale is pretty bad
