iTunes version 4.9 has now been released by Apple, and it allows you to subscribe directly to Coverville (and your other favorite podcasts).
It still has a few features missing – that you’ll find in a more advanced podcasting client like iPodderX (like playlist support, audio-izing of text blogs, video, etc.), but it’s a great start.
Download 4.9, and be sure to subscribe to Coverville!
Your feed on iTMS is missing stuff; especially “time” and “artist” (you).
Also, who’s paying for the bandwith they are using, you or Apple?
Is anyone else having trouble getting the iTunes podcast feature to recognize the most recent show? I wanted to try it out, so I subscribed and set it up to download only the most recent episode (104), because I’ve already got all the rest. I click the update button, it lists the most recent 7 or so shows (with the exception of 104), and then it starts downloading show number 103, which it seems to think is the most recent. I’ve tried this three or four times in the last couple of days, and always with the same result. Has anyone else had this problem? More importantly, has anyone else been able to fix it?
One gripe I have about the new podcast format in iTunes is that it doesn’t allow me to play podcasts back-to-back-to-back. I used to be able to do this with iPodderX, where it would automatically import the downloaded podcasts into iTunes, and since they had “Podcast” in the genre field, I could easily set up a smart playlist that would list all podcasts and I could play that entire playlist. This was nice on my commute.
Now, each podcast feed has its own folder under “Podcasts”, which is a sub-folder of the “Music” menu. So, I go… Music –> Podcasts –> Coverville –> (Most Recent episode). When that podcast is done playing, it sends me back to the main menu on my iPod. Arrrgh. I can’t fumble around searching for another podcast to play while I’m driving!
Please, Apple… add a “Play all unplayed podcasts” or “shuffle all podcasts” feature to iTunes and the iPod’s functionality.
Great show, Coverville!!!
Yes, I’ve found how to fix the problem with getting iTunes to download the latest Coverville. Don’t use Apple’s subscribe feature. Click Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast, and paste in: http://www.coverville.com/index.xml
🙂
same problem with itunes not getting recent shows.
fyi
Just took James Gillette’s advice and it worked perfectly. Thanks, James.
I wonder if subscribing directly will change my placement in the “Top 100”. Not that it’s as important – I’d rather my listeners got my shows!
Thanks for the tip- I’ve been trying to get new episodes since # 104- I wonder why it will show the episode information, but not download the file?
I’ll leave both the manual and the itms subscriptions in place; maybe it’ll keep the placement in the top 100 (#50- cool!), and still get the shows…
You’re welcome, Franklin and Weblizard. It didn’t occur to me that it might affect the placement of Coverville in the top 100, though. I’ll also keep both, and then I’ll know when Apple’s is working again.
