Nice show. That Baseballs cover of Umbrella had me thinking I was listening to Elvis in places.
Marie Digby does a real nice cover of “Umbrella” as well.
Thank you Brian for the long-overdue Manics cover story. They’d passed me by in the early stages of their career until the Suicide is Painless cover. That cover does the magic trick for me of taking an original I absolutely adore and completely changes it into another version that I adore in equal measure – a rare trick for covers, I feel – you usually prefer the original or the cover, I tend to find. I always felt that the Manics version could easily have been a Heavy Metal version from the 70s when M*A*S*H was on tv. Trouble is, I then proceeded to ignore the Manics again until 1996’s Everything Must Go album, but then I was hooked and went back and bought their whole back catalogue. Great show. As ever, keep up the fabulous work!
Digging on Steam Powered Giraffe. Bonus is the Crash Test Dummies voice.
