I saw the Go-Go's at the late, great J.B. Scott's in Albany, NY c. 1981. They did their entire first album and a B-side, as I recall, and not much else. But it was $5 and it was fun; it was a small enough venue that we were all rather close. It was great.
Still not sure whether or not to consider that fun boy three song a cover since he cowrote it, plus Jane sings backup vocals, if it is a cover it's one of my favorites though
Just because someone wrote (or co-wrote) a song, doesn't mean they can't cover it. Some great examples: Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" (originally performed by The Family, covered by Prince later on), "We Belong" by Pat Benatar, covered later by the writers, Lowen & Navarro.
For me, the criteria is simply, "Has it been recorded & released before".
