Kate Bush didn’t write those “new” lyrics to Flower of the Mountain. Those are from Molly’s soliloquy at the end of James Joyce’s Ulysses. Bush had originally written the song for those words but Joyce’s grandson (who is notorious for his prohibitive and ham-handed oversight of Joyce’s letters) forbade the use. Joyce’s copyright is up this year (yay!) and when Bush asked again to sing the song as it was originally intended, Joyce’s grandson relented.
A word regarding the sponsor ad: if you’re familiar with “Wicked” the musical but haven’t read/heard the book, you may be surprised if you get it from audible. The general premise is the same (i.e. it’s an imagined back-story for the ‘wicked’ witch of the West) and many (but not all) of the characters are there as well, but the musical is much more light-hearted and has far more in common with the Judy Garland movie than the book, which is very dark, political, dramatic, and doesn’t come with quite so happy an ending. Some day I’d love to see a film adaptation of the novel, as the musical, while fun, has about as much in common with the book as the movie “Titanic” had with the actual disaster.
I didn’t remember Johnny Lee either. In fact, even AFTER knowing the answer, I might not remember… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lookin%27_for_Love
